YUKINORI MORIYAMA, 7th Dan
CHIEF INSTRUCTOR  and CHAIRMAN OF WORLD KANSUIRYU KARATEDO INC.

Sensei Yukinori Moriyama began his training in Kansuiryu Karate at the age of thirteen under Seko-sensei, the previous Chairman of World Kansuiryu Karate. He rose steadily through the grades and on the recommendation of Seko-sensei joined a select group of students for advanced training with Kansuiryu founder, Mizu-sensei. Moriyama-sensei recalls that on his arrival at Mizu-sensei’s Dojo in the company of Seko-sensei his two seniors entered and left him waiting on the doorstep for several hours – in subzero temperatures and dressed only in his cotton karate-gi. Training under Mizu-sensei proved equally arduous. Sessions began with students crouched in kiba dachi, or horse riding stance, and performing basic punches to the count without pause for hours on end and thousands of repetitions, with Mizu-sensei stalking the dojo, ever-ready to dispense swift punishment to anyone not showing maximum effort.

Keen to test his training, Moriyama-sensei quickly established himself in competition. During the course of his competitive career he amassed a record of seventy-five wins from eighty full-contact bouts, winning four All-Japan Open Championships along the way to become one of the styles most successful fighters.
In 1995 Moriyama Sensei was selected to introduce Kansuiryu Karate to Australia. He arrived that year in Cairns with his wife, Mayumi-san.

He attained his 2nd Dan in 1990, 3rd Dan in 1992, 6th Dan in 2000 and 7th Dan in 2005.

Also in 2005, Moriyama-sensei was honoured to be made Chairman of the World Kansuiryu Karate Federation.
